James Hutchinson It is believed that James was born in Northern Ireland, migrating with his family to America somewhere between 1773 and 1775. After arriving, he and his family settling in Laurens County, South Carolina. James was wheel chair bound for most of his life, having largely lost the use of his legs, due to what was thought to be rheumatic troubles. He was for many years a schoolteacher. He became a Mason in 1813, taking an active part in the local Masonic Lodge activities.
